Gordon Brown, the Steve McClaren of Politics

There's an air of desperation in the increasingly worried statements by members of Gordon Brown's team. Margaret Beckett is the latest one to come out and say that the rebels and those that are wavering need to get behind the Prime Minister. Interestingly the global financial crisis helps to slightly reinforces Brown's assertion that we're just victims in a bigger game. Frankly if it were anyone else in No.10 but Brown they'd probably pull it off – well they might do. However you hear no one in the country saying a good word for the PM; his reputation is so sullied that there's no way back. It's a bit like Steve McClaren winning his last game as England manager, 6-0; it still would have done for him

I think that people have voted in their own minds and even if it was sunny every day until the election, Gordon would lose in a landslide.

Forgive my ignorance - I don't know who Steve McLaren is.

But Gordon Brown is more like the Alan Partridge of politics to me now that I come to think of it. LOL
