The Curse of Social Engineering

Just when you thought Labour couldn't get any more daft the massed ranks of the PC brigade, that have done so much the negatively affect some of what is good about Britain, look set to influence things in Edinburgh. Gavin Strang, who represents Edinburgh East in Westminster, is set to retire at the next election, so what is being suggested? A women only short list to select a new candidate! No mention of getting the best person for the job, instead we have the tired old mantra. "We talk about equality and things like that, that there is no 'glass ceiling', but when you look at that research, it kind of hits home." This from a lady named Patsy King who compiled the research that reveals that only one woman has represented Edinburgh since 1918. Social engineering looks good in paper, ticks all the boxes, but ultimately it's a curse on society.

Yes, yes and yes. Social engineering it is.

A social policy which treats the female as a failed being, and adopts the need to fill gender quota as a matter of positive discrimination, looks to me as patronising and anachronistic as Freud’s castration complex. Not an immediately winning marketing image, is it?

Let’s face it, being a woman is the easiest deal you can make. But can there be a single standard for both sexes as long as women are mothers? I very much doubt it!

Perceptive as ever Dreamy. The idea hat women have to have this extra helping hand is, as you say, very patronising. It's what happens whenever you gather togather a bunch of second rate anythings...they come up with second rate solutions.
