It Would Be Nice If He Was Nicer....

I'm wondering, is it just me? Watching our prime minister on last night's news the most obvious conclusion is that here is man who is both angry and unpleasant. Now I am not for a minute suggesting our PMs or our politicians should be 'nice people' but neither should they be unpleasant. If Gordon is to survive he needs to work out how to control his temper and his facial expressions. And there's no chance on either count. I posted back in May about the fact that a No.2 can rarely step up to become a No.1. It was called, Never make dreams your master, and once again that's exactly what Brown was doing. Leadership is not something that you can learn, nor is it bestowed upon you when you assume the position.

Gordon is deep in the Brown stuff, not waving, but drowning and it's only going to get worse....

I seriously think he would be nicer if he tried to be less nice. I mean, I can like people who are horrible -- I like them for being true to their nature and I've know lots of people like that -- but people who hide their angry nature behind a fake smile are totally unlikable. Brown smiles too much when he doesn't mean to.

I think that makes sense.

I think it does too. You're absolutely right.

I think he does have a problem with charisma. I can't imagine that Brown is charming though personally I have heard he is. Having said that there is his reputation as a bully. The thing is you could always imagine that Blair meant the best and would be good company, you wonder about Brown and how he would pass that test.

I think it all comes down to whether someone is well rounded or not. None of us are perfect, I have faults but I try to improve on those areas that are lacking. Somehow Brown always comes across as a bit unreal, somewhat out of touch and yet he claims to be absolutely 'normal.'

There's no question that being in power for a long time affects the ability of politicians to see things in the round; it's inevitable, not a criticism. With Brown there's something deeper at work, undercurrents that smack of a man who is troubled and has a self-belief that is bordering on the delusional. I’m convinced that he’s someone who believes that he knows best, knows more than those around him and is but a few steps away from declaring himself ‘the supreme leader’. F we were living in earlier times Brown would be dictator material.

So true. And where are the great leaders today, now that we need them? We have Bush and you have Brown, whereas once we had FDR and you had Churchill. Quite a step downwards.
