I Did It My Way

I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I

I paraphrase, but that is what John Prescott's interview on Andrew Marr's TV show was like this morning. Apparently everything that has happened under the Labour government for the last ten years is all down to the vain glorious deputy prime minister. He even managed to say that he was a man of principle - some principle, some man. When he was asked, at the end of the interview, about his affair he said he was "disappointed he'd let people down" and then without missing a beat he went into a tirade about the rebuilding of Manchester as a city under a Labour government and Labour Council. He finished up a few seconds later saying he "leaves the job full of pride."

What an apology for a man. His behaviour has been a joke; he's embarrassed us as a nation and has milked the gravy train. He joked about going on the campaign trail even if he had to use his bus pass. What about the enormous pension that he's gong to get and other perks of politics? John Prescott has exemplified everything that is ugly in politics.

Okay,a little off-topic here, Richard, but you're my UK source. The newspaper today mentioned Tony Blair's visit to the Pope and as an aside mentioned that there was some speculation that Blair might convert to Catholicism after he leaves office. Any credence to that? Does being Catholic in England hurt a politician? It doesn't seem to here, except at the Presidential level--JFK is the only one.

Indeed there is some truth in the rumour, or so it seems. His wife is a Catholic so that's part of it. The fact that he might be a Catholic has no bearing on his political office holding - it only affects the Royal Family.

What people have had a difficulty with is T Blair saying that he has had guidance from God on the subject of Iraq - people here are not keen on that.
