What's £600 Million Between Friends

In this morning's Scotsman it's reported that plans to dual the A9 from Perth to Inverness at a £600 million were announced by the transport minister, Stewart Stevenson. In the same article we're told that Alex Salmond has deep misgivings about the proposed Ednburgh tram scheme - cost £600. As the paper points out the A9 goes through three SNP constituncies.

Now if I were the SNP I'd be doing exactly the same.

I occasionally use the A9, and also live in Edinburgh, although not on the tram line route. So the A9 plan is at least partly of use to me.

They should spend half on dualling most of the remaining single lane bits of the A9, and the other half on lots of new busses and the painting of trompe l'oeil tramlines on the street.

Hopefully this cheaper 'tram system' will still get councillors laid when they visit european cities. That's what it's for, right?

Yes, exactly.
