Steely Dan Dare

Back in 1971 Barbra Streisand released an album entitled Barbra Joan Streisand, probably because that’s her full name. Anyway, as well as covering a couple of John Lennon songs, three by Carole King she also did 'I Mean To Shine' written by Walter Becker and Donald Fagen, soon to be of Steely Dan fame; it was the first song they’d composed together that was recorded by another artist. On the track Fagen plays organ, June Millington who had been in the all girl band Fanny plays guitar and Bobby Keyes (long time Stones sideman) plays sax. Everybody has to start somewhere.

While Babwa is no doubt talented, her music does nothing for me personally. She did have quite a stable of artists on her first album.
Who woulda thunk Bobby Keyes would play on a Streisand record?

Actually, due to the fact that Streisand and Fanny shared producer Richard Perry, all the members of Fanny played on this album. Not just June Millington, but sister Jean (bass), Nickey Barclay (keys) and Alice deBuhr (drums). See my blog for more on Fanny!
