Why?

SIR Sean Connery has been appointed Scotland's Commonwealth Games ambassador to help Glasgow land the 2014 event. What next? All this from a man who comes from Edinburgh, doesn't even want to live in Scotland and accepted a knighthood from a country he wants to see broken up. He's a joke.

The supposed power of celebrity - even one who is 76 years of age and has little connection to the youth in Scotland or sport come to that.

Surely Scotland can do better for credible and influential celebrities?

He`s also allegedly, a foul mouthed carousing wife beater. There must be a worthier Scotsman than Connery for such a prestigious role . I suggest Sir Jackie Stewart ( he of Motor Racing renown ). Although, being a close friend of Princess Anne and other Royals, may not bode particularly well ! Failing that how about Rab.C.Nesbitt ?

Heather, we're stuck in a time warp up here at times. SC seems like he's modern to some.

TG, the problem is, I believe, that people think he really is James Bond, not just an actor who has not a lot going for him.

What about Ewan McGregor or Billy Connolly?

I'd much prefer to see some of Scotland's sporting greats; somehow seems more apposite. Although in a world where Celebs rule it isn't everybody's idea of a winning idea.

Andy Murray?

The trouble with young Andy is he always sounds so angry!

I second the nomination of Jackie Stewart. He's got wide-ranging name recognition.
