The Economics of Dignity

After all the political talk of the last few days and weeks I thought it was time for some music....

It’s well known, well possibly slightly known maybe, that Deacon Blue took their name from a Steely Dan song. They were similarly inspired by the Dan to offer obscure references in their songs. None more so than in 'Dignity' their first hit record in 1988 which references John Maynard Keynes, the only known mention of the revered economist and Bloomsbury group member to appear in song. For that matter probably the only ever reference to an economist anytime, anywhere in pop music.
