Cash Goes Camp

Every year old stars are rediscovered and put into that special category reserved for people who have paid their dues. Their careers are reassessed and they are placed at Rock's top table, as elder statesmen of popular music. Johnny Cash gained admittance sometime around 1994 following the release of his highly acclaimed album ‘American Recordings’. With his passing the level of praise grew even greater, he has become a virtual deity.

But just like in life there was darkness before the dawn. Cash was not always treated with such reverence. In February 1993 Johnny Cash played a weekend booking at Butlin’s Holiday camp in Bognor Regis (half board £61 for the weekend, £26 self catering). These Butlin’s weekends at places like Bognor and Minehead have become a regular off-season filler and as often as not feature 60s shows or Soul weekends, but few have featured legends like the ‘Man in Black’.

It's a long time since I've heard Cash. I really do think you should add a musical link to your blog so we can appreciate the songs too, perhaps from YouTube.

I've looked into this and it's too hit and miss Ellee in terms of what's available and what isn't. I'm currently checking out some other options....

Off topic, but are you anywhere near the home of Traquair Bear Ale?

Pretty close, about an hour. It's near Peebles and I'm heading over there tomorrow coincidentally for a meeting (Peebles that is).

I've had the odd bottle but tend to drink beer from the Black Isle Brewery (Organic beer that is wonderful)

Their Porter is wonderful with mussels!
